New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman was in charge of closing the inning for the team, but instead of striking out Ramon Urias, he decided to throw slider in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 win over the Yankees on Friday night.
The Bronx Bombers failed to score in the extra innings of a very tight game, and Baltimore took advantage of the bases-loaded scenario in their 11th inning to come away with a great victory.
A Walk-off win for the Orioles
The bases were loaded thanks to walks by Anthony Bemboom and Kelvin Gutierrez. Chapman, who threw only four strikes in 16 pitches at the plate, struck out Cedric Mullins. And when it looked like they were going into the twelfth inning, Ramón Urías came in to hold a slider and get to four balls to win his ninth.
Aaron Boone gets thrown out of the game
Prior to this episode, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected for his constant complaints and antics against the umpire.
Joey Krehbiel achieved his first victory in the Major Leagues tonight
Picher Joey Krehbiel also cements himself as one of the top closers in the Orioles franchise for this season. Giancarlo Stanton had a three-hit night for his team, including what appeared to be the go-ahead run in extra innings. Anthony Rizzo, came up short after Stanton connected. Baltimore starter Jordan Lyles allowed only one run and six hits in five and one-third innings. He also struck out four Yankees players.
